Day Trip in Fes City Tour - Itinerary

This Fes City Tour in a Full Day Trip will take you to the heart of the imperial city of Fes, which is the city that most reflects the ancestral past of the Moroccan kingdom and its ancient civilization. It was and still is the core of intellectual and spiritual creativity, not only in Morocco but also in the Islamic world. The houses of Fez, the oldest university in the world, Al Quaraouiyyne, and its ancient medina were declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1981.

Traditionally, your exploration of the medina should begin at the gate of Bab Boujlloud. The first monument to visit is the vast Medersa of Bou Inania. Continuing along the Talaa Kebira Road (great climb), you will especially admire the Zawiya Tijani (zawiya, shrine of a religious fraternity) and the souk of instrument makers before arriving at the Mazara (shrine) of the former ruler Moulay Idriss located in the place where he made the decision to build the city.

Once you pass the shoe sellers, you will arrive at the En-Nejjarine square and the cabinetmaker’s souk. The magnificently carved foundouk (caravanserai) in the square houses the Museum of Wood Arts and Crafts. The Kissaria (covered market), where fine jewelry and fabrics are for sale, is located nearby (it is closed at night). Next, you can admire the most visited and revered attraction of Fez: the zaouia of Moulay Idriss, founder of the city.

The walk continues to Es-Seffarine square, the square of the Calderaro, and then to the district of tanners located just before the Andalusian district with its mosque and the Medersa Es-Sahrij.
